How much is too much?

<p>For the extracurricular section, the maximum is 12 things. So...</p>

<li><p>Is it better to just list 5-8 major activities or max out (12) the section?</p></li>
<li><p>Also, what if for for example, you volunteered for the activity one year and then were paid for the same activity for the years afterward? Would that activity have two boxes?</p></li>
<li><p>Finally, for details would you just list or write in paragraph form? How much is necessary?</p></li>

<p>I heard from many professional admissions counselors that it is best to keep that section concise with only the things you care about. Throwing in a bunch of crap will not look good.</p>

<p>Just write a couple of short sentences. The Common App activity space isn’t that big anyway, and you have to click “Preview” to make sure nothing is cut off (because that’s ultimately also what the adcoms will see).</p>
