How much is tuition?

Honestly, I'm kind of confused as to what the exact cost of tuition is for a new jersey resident commuting to Rutgers. In a planning letter I got a couple months ago, it said the estimated costs for a commuting student was 16100. Let me copy and paste the exact sentence here- "The anticipated typical costs for the 2012-2013 academic year for a New Jersey resident commuting from home are $16,100 which includes direct charges payable to the University for tuition, fees, room and board." Why did they include room and board if the costs are for a commuting student? In addition, the rutgers website says that tuition is around 11,000 with additional fees of about 2000. Still, that does not equal 16,000.

So all in all, how much should I expect to pay/ year if I commute to Rutgers, and I do not purchase a meal plan.

Btw, I will be attending Rutgers business school in NB

COMPUTER FEE $147.00
TARGUM $10.75
CAMPUS FEE $1,125.25
HOUSING $3,819.00
MEAL PLAN $950.00
SCHOOL FEE $116.00
TUITI0N $5,204.00
Tuition & Fees: $11,372.00

These were the charges for Spring 2012 semester for my son, a business major living on campus. Subtract housing and meal plan and multiply X2 and that is -about- what you will have to pay. It will probably be a bit higher due to regular increases. Also: don’t forget to add in books, gas money, spending money for food, etc.

I have no idea why they included ‘room and board’ for a commuting student. It could be just an inadvertent mistake by someone entering the data. Sometimes when they estimate costs to students, they include books and spending money in the figure so people are not caught by surprise later.

Remember the above costs listed are for 1 semester.

“In addition, the rutgers website says that tuition is around 11,000 with additional fees of about 2000.”

I get a little over 13k (annual cost) when I add up 2 semesters of tuition and fees based on last year. If you add in books and spending money, the figure could easily be ~16k. You can always call financial aid on Monday and ask them for the exact numbers.

You can also view the Estimated Net Price Calculator video to see what Rutgers is required to tell you about the cost of attending Rutgers. They include miscellaneous projected expenses in order to give you a full picture of what it costs to attend.

You can also do this cost estimator that applies to your own situation. When it asks for book costs, I would add in $1000 for the two semester cost (~$500 per semester, could be higher).

<a href=“Student ABC | Rutgers University Finance and Administration | University Finance and Administration”>Student ABC | Rutgers University Finance and Administration | University Finance and Administration;

^Are you out of state? That would make alot more sense in terms of your costs.

[Rutgers | Rutgers Admissions](http://admissions.rutgers.edu/costs/tuitionandfees.aspx)

Over here it says 10,104+2651(fees) if you are sas and a commuter. If you are SEBS, pharmacy, or engineering add 1118 more so the total should be 13873 at most. Unless Rutgers has hidden fees I’m unaware of, that should be it.

Oh I think they are including indirect costs maybe?

So, according to that term bill, I’m looking at around 13,000.

Thanks for the help guys
