How much is your In-state cost

UCLA

$6522 Tuition/fees + $11K housing/meals = $17,522K
Although costs can be higher with books and different housing/meal plans and if taking the health insurance

UCSD

a little less than UCLA since housing/meals are about $2K or so lower

But how much was gas?

ucla dad:

the budget for dorms (where most Frosh live) at UCLA is $23k; budget for greek houses is $17k, and off campus $21k.

That's budget but actual costs are less if you break it down by tuition/fees and dorm costs. As I stated, books, health insurance, ice cream, and movies cost more. The price I quoted was straight from UCLA's website including the dorm plan my D is in (triple - private bathroom). I've found that the 'budget' approximations for the UCs (at least UCLA/UCSD) tend to be high but I have fairly thrifty kids.

Milw- UW tuition was/is always most at Madison, I'll bet it was $254/sem, I don't remember any $127 bills, UWM could have been $248 and still under $500/year...or you would have remembered it costing twice as much...wages for food service jobs were in the $1.80 ($1.85 after midnight in the snack bar...)/hr range one year. My son spent over $100 for a calculus textbook, mine was $13 for 3 semesters use.

I heard that U. of West Virginia in Morgantown is the lowest tuition and a pretty good University for the price ( lots of kids from Pittsburgh go there ) .

Tuition/room/board/required fees
University of New Hampshire $17,985

University of Vermont $ 18,966

Looked up West Virginia U.
In state: tuition-$4476, room/board-$2300, books-$900
