Hello, I am currently a Junior, thinking of trying to get into Duke and I am wondering how many years of language I should take?
Since I was born in Brazil and my mother is Brazillian I do speak Portuguese fluently. I am trying to balance a rigourous schedule vs electives to be able to have lots of options going into college. I take Concert band (State Honors band) and Art because i want to have a portfolio by the end of HS. The rest of my schedule is mainly the normal honors and AP classes. I have taken honors French 2 so far and with no French on my schedule in my Junior year how much should I take in my senior year? I am thinking of only doing Hrs French 3???
The final reason is that my sister is a Junior at Duke and she took Spanish all the way up to AP level and ended up having to do a language at Duke anyway so...Whats the point of going any further in HS
Thoughts anyone?
Thanks in advance

I am a Duke freshman! There is definitely a point to doing a lot of languages in high school. They changed the program at Duke since your sister applied. Now if you have enough high school language background all you have to take is 1 language class (THATS IT!!!). If you stop at French 3 you may have to take 3 classes! I recommend taking as MANY language classes as you can because knowing three languages will look really good. GO BLUE DEVILS
