How much leeway should be given for bubbling in?

When taking practice tests for the ACT and/or SAT at home and simply circling the answers, how much time per section should you leave? Let’s say strictly ACT because I know it’ll be varying for the different tests. I know that you obviously need some more time for English (75 questions) vs. Reading (40 questions), but how much time should that be? Am I right in assuming 2 minutes for Reading and 4 for English would be enough, or should I really be shaving more time off that? I’m worried because I’ve been doing well on practice tests, but I’m not sure how much of that has been because I have timing that I won’t have on the official ACT.

Thanks in advance to all comments and again sorry if this has already been asked!

Well, suppose you spend 3 secs per problem bubbling the answer. You should be able to estimate total time spent. Maybe add a little more for leeway.

However, I almost always bubble after each question on a Scantron-type test, since you don’t have to worry about rushing near the end to bubble everything.

Why don’t you just bubble in as you go, like most people do?

Bubble as you complete every question on each page in that way you can concentrate better in one task at a time.

print out a bubble sheet and practice with that to see for yourself. most people bubble as they go but I like to it at the end bc bubbling distracts my focus but I took the (old) SAT which I felt had a little more time than the ACT
