LiaxxN, I think you chose a bad time to send in your things. I believe in a best case scenario you’ll make the second round of decisions.
If you send in your material tomorrow, it would normally be at PSU by friday and entered into the system by next tuesday. Of course Thanksgiving is on wednesday so your transcript will undoubtedly take longer to arrive and the admissions office will be closed. If you do manage to make the Nov. 30 deadline you’ll be cutting it very close.

imani - I’m not sure I agree with the poster re only getting into a satellite campus. If you selected the summer program as an option, I would think you would have a decent shot at that. I have a very similar situation. Naviance shows I’m comfortably in (i.e., no one ever rejected from my school with my stats) and I only have a 3.63 weighted (and am almost identical unweighted - I think they use the unweighted) and a 25 composite ACT which equates to a similar SAT as your son. My English subscore was pretty high and my combined score was a 27 which is like a 610 writing and so my equivalent combined SAT is about a 1760, which on the new chart puts me in the middle of the yellow bubble range. BTW - what’s his top choice?

PA2015 I don’t know about your Naviance data- are you sure that they are registering admissions for UP vs. satellite campuses? My D’s guidance counselor wasn’t sure my D would get in to main campus though her GPA was 3.7 and SAT of 1960. It turned out she was accepted and he seemed surprised.

Hello! I have just recently joined college confidential today and am still getting the hang of things. I am only an 8th grader, but really want to go to W.P Carey School of Business to become the manager of a huge company. (McDonalds, Coke, Walmart, etc.) I know close to nothing about the world of business and have some questions maybe someone can answer for me? Please, I need some help, advice, and some guidance!;]]

Advice:

Don’t join college confidential until your in high school… Seriously.

Haha take Shermani’s advice, this site will drive you insane until you get those acceptance letters. Just try your best and do not slack off in high school and you should be fine.

PA2015-I actually looked up lots of area school’s Naviance results (you can enter most as a guest without a password.) Our stats were similar to other large public districts in NJ. Rocknroll and I were talking and think that maybe the 8-9 years of stats (many before they rose in the USRW rankings) might be pulling the averages down a bit? The stats I have with the 73% acceptance are exclusive to UP. The other PSU campuses have their own stats. CC members tend to be the best and brightest (present company excluded…sorry son) So there aren’t so many kids on the boards with “average” SAT’s n such. You look at the board for posts at schools like Univ New Hampshire, Michigan state and they are way less active. Also people who Don’t get in, usually don’t post as actively. So I don’t think CC is the best real-time reflection of actual acceptance patterns. It’s very important that everyone post results (even you lurkers) for posterity and to more accurately track changes with the schools that have reputations for increased selectiveness! I have two friends in town with kids currently sophomores at PSU and both had way lower stats than on “the bubble”

Our Naviance data is definitely UP (satellites have their own data). Rocknroll, I think your guidance counselor was playing typical guidance counselor and being conservative. With those stats I could’ve told you that you were very likely to get in - unless your unweighted GPA was much lower. That’s the one example where things are a bit ambiguous - high weighted GPA and much lower unweighted - since I believe PSU primarily uses the unweighted, but does take into account the weighted.

yes I think guidance counselors tend to be conservative–but I have also heard anecdotal evidence from other parents including of rejected ones- that confirms PSU becoming more selective in recent years- just don’t think you can rely upon that Naviance data too heavily unless you can sort out by year

I am in the blue on the bubble chart but didn’t send teacher recommendations, thought they were optional. Should i send now? My app was in beginning of Oct. I feel like I have been waiting forever.

And…if you are going to torture yourself by reading these posts for the next 4 years, you should at least go to the ASU site. Isn’t that where the Carey school is located?

Ds status changed this morning from “all high school transcripts are in” to " Your application is complete, all of your required materials are here, and we are reviewing your credentials. A decision will be available here as soon as one is made".
App. sent in November 6th. SAT/ACT November 14th.

Anyone here from the college of earth and mineral sciences?

@3beesinc Be prepared for the wait. From what we’ve been discussing the penultimate status change says something about “a decision will be made in the coming days”.

I’ve had the status you daughter has for a few days but other people have said they’ve had the status for more than three weeks. So I wouldn’t expect a decision right away. It would be almost normal to not recieve a decison so soon.

I contacted admissions to ask about letters of recommendation for my son’s application and they told me not to send them unless he was applying to the honors college since they would not even look at them. After my phone call, I found similar information regasrding this on the PSU website. Frankly, I’m confused about all of the accepted students who said that they sent them.

Thank you for applying to Penn State. Your application has been received and is being reviewed. An admission decision will be posted here in the coming days

I applied a month ago and it finally changed to this message three days ago. This suspense is killing meeee

ephenst} Thanks! When your going through it for the first time,(like us) not knowing the
what’s coming next can be frustrating. Thought a timeline may help. Keep the faith, good luck!

I got the “An admission decision will be posted here in the coming days” status on November 22nd, and got my acceptance letter today (November 24th) and and the letter was postmarked November 22nd.
From what I read here, this seems to be the trend for MOST people.
Also, my status hasn’t changed online yet. I’ve seen this happen to quite a few people, so remember to check the mailbox, too!

p.s. The Office of Admissions Staff is on Thanksgiving break Thursday-Sunday, so you may not want to drive yourself crazy checking your status for the next couple days. Although I know if it was me I’d still probably keep checking, just because I’m crazy like that :)

Good luck to your son as well 3beesinc.

And a timeline is a great idea. I might just make a timeline and post it here. I’m sure many people would find it helpful.

question for those that got into a sattelite campus
did your statuses still change online to the “coming days one” and then did you find out that you got into a sattelite campus?
