I've read that it is a lot of Java. From my limited understand, Java is some sort of programming language. Is there math involved? What sort of math and to what extent is math used? I've always been the student who struggled in the AP math classes..

Honestly, I've had no background understanding of Computer Science; no preparation, nada! (my counselor still encouraged the class) I'm worrying my pants off.

To what extent is computer science rote memorization? That I can handle Thanks in advance.

So you’re taking the class just because some counselor told you to?

Yeah, I mean I’m just some young student. What do I know? I eat breakfast because my mommy tells me too. Heck, I even go to school because the law says so.

geez I was just trying to help :/

why would you take a class that you had no background on? or interest at least?

What computer science, A or AB (AB is more challenging, and looks a lot better for colleges)? Also, being good at math will help, and every good programmer I know is also decent at math, so having no math skills is going to make it that much more challenging. I would recommend having a mastery of Algebra I/II, and not Calculus, as you don’t need Calc (AB or BC).

There isn’t much ‘rote’ memorization…

If you want to get a feel of what Computer Science is like visit MIT Open Courseware. You can find it on youtube. There are lectures of actual MIT comp sci classes.

^The AP CS AB exam doesn’t exist anymore, except in our memories…

Yea, they stopped doing AP AB which was the one that most elite colleges accepted for credit, i took the AP comp sci A this year (5), and it was my second year of programming.
I don’t find there to be much math, definetely not calculus. Algebra II was a pre requisite, even though we almost never used math. The hardest part i believe about the math is knowing the math methods and how they work (like what data type they return)
take comp sci A, if you don’t have any passion or interest in it though, i suggest you don’t take it
