I am currently a freshman in high school planning my schedule for next year. I have the option of, on top of Chemistry Honors, taking an AP Science course. I was wondering how much math is required for AP Physics 1 (Algebra Based). I have taken Algebra 1 and am currently enrolled in Geometry Honors. Next year I will be enrolled in Algebra 2. If I am getting a 100 in Geometry and a 99 in Biology Honors, should I take AP Physics 1 now or wait until Junior year when I have passed Algebra 2?
From the AP Physics 1 course description:
“Students should have completed geometry and be concurrently taking Algebra II or an equivalent course.
Although the Physics 1 course includes basic use of trigonometric functions, this understanding can be gained either in the concurrent math course or in the AP Physics 1 course itself.”
I’m currently in it right now, and it’s really basic math. Hence the name AP Phyics 1: Algebra-based (even though there’s minimal algebra). More conceptual than anything
