On the website it says requirements are up to like vector calculus, i think its 20F at UCSD. Why is so much math required for a major that isent engineering or mathematics?

is the website accurate? is it possible to get a comp sci major @ UCSD by only completing Calc 1 and 2, math 20A/20B?

No you can’t just complete a little bit of math. Computers involve countless calculations using more than just calculus. I’d say linear algebra and differential equations are absolute must.

in ucsd, u have to complete math 20A-20F so basically, single/multivariable, linear, differential, and vector calc. and i think u need to take stats as well.

Kids like to fool around with computers think that they like to study computer science at a UC. The truth is many of these computer nerds will fail badly.

If you enjoy building web pages and writing program but not very good at math, go to Cal State CS departments and be trained to be a programmer.

UC Computer Science is all math, logic, and science. Programming is just a small part and is mostly a tool only.

Stories

A girl at UCLA majoring in CS cried all day and night the first week of class and eventally switch major a week later.

A friend’s son struggled for 2 years at UCLA and finally switched to African Studies.

A nephew struggled for 3 years at UCLA and finally transfer to Cal State, became a damn good progarmmer, and got a good job.
