How much merit based FA could one expect?

“Expect” could be a loose word here, but what I’m looking for is what aid OSU has offered students on this forum that are doing well academically. I’m coming in as a transfer student and as far as I know do not have any scholarships lined up like some people do out of high school (no ACT scores, no top 20% of high school class, etc.) If I were to achieve A’s and A-'s (e.g. 3.70-3.85 GPA) and get into the honor’s program after two quarters could I expect merit-based aid? My major is a part of the College of Engineering if that makes a difference.

Most of the “big” scholarships (Provost, Maximus, Morrill, etc…) are for new freshmen, not transfers. In the transfer application packet (http://undergrad.osu.edu/pdf/OSUtransfer_packet.pdf), there’s a list of scholarships on page 6. It’s mostly slim pickings…and very obscure ones, at that.

By coming in as a transfer, you definitely lose out on most of the scholarship opportunities (mostly for new freshmen). However, Engineering is one of the Colleges that does give departmental scholarships, usually $1-2000 each. I’m not sure on the details like GPA/test score requirements, but I think this is probably your best option. If you’re really smart/special/cool, you can get enough in departmental scholarships to cover full tuition (happened to one girl from my HS).

Best of luck!

FWIW, boy in son’s HS graduating class (very competitive school) has a 3.8 and only got $2000 per year towards an engineering degree.
