How much money do you spend per month ?

How much money do you spend per month in average at college ?
I am trying to figure out how much I should ask my parents for my allowance. (I will probably start working 2nd semester of my freshman year)

About 1200 per month in California. (besides school fees)

Is that including food/housing/essentials?

Outside of all that stuff, I didn't really spend more than a hundred a month. I never had the need.

if the 1200 a month does NOT include food/housing, then what are you using it on?

hookers and beer

south CA:
$500-700 room with utilities
$400 food
$100-300 books
$100 car (gas only, excluding insurance and repair)
$100 extra (gadgets, clothes, school materials, etc.)

heheh; i spent about $400 (a bit over sometimes) per month, but totally excessive (though i go to school at berkeley and the bay area is expensive....). my roommate used about $200, and she wasn't scrimping.

[not including tuition/books/room/board/etc.]

I spend around $1200 for everything, but I have an apartment.

$725 rent/utils, $200 food and random householdy things like paper towels (food as in from the grocery store, not going out to eat every night), $100 for books/art supplies and about $150 for other stuff.

If you are living in the dorms with a full food plan, you could get by with $50 a month for laundry, toiletries, and misc. things. Sure, it's nice to have more and I easily spent a couple hundred some months (eating out, gifts, new clothes, etc) but when you earn the money you will appreciate the items more. Now I live off campus and have rent, bills, groceries, car payment, gas, etc. So, it adds up to over $1,000 a month easy.

i am getting 280 from my parents a month for everything past dorm and food plan

you're very lucky.

I've stayed in a dorm without a food plan, and $300cdn a month was good enough.

I live in a dorm with a meal plan, so my spending money is just textbooks and entertainment. My textbooks run about $500 a semester, and then I probably spend an additional $150 a month on eating out, movies, plays/musicals, sports games, clothing, etc. When I got a job, I was able to spend more extravegently, but even then rarely spent more than $200 a month outside of textbooks.

$112.38

....

This is a bad question. It depends on so many things...income, tastes, cost of living, etc.

I don't even want to think about it. A lot of money.

i spent about 400/500 a month in college. that was for car payments, insurance, cell phone, gas, and food in my apt. plus whater mis. expenses.

Well i haven't been to college yet but last year i had to live with a friend and I bought all my extra stuff (lunch, face stuff, clothes etc) I didn't go over 100 dollars so it shouldn't be so bad.. (around 60-70 i think)i hope...

Plus i didn't have a cell phone.. (i was the only person who didn't have one) pretty inconvienient but convienient when i just want to stay out all night without people bothering me.)

Though this yr i have to pay for my own gas and car insurance.. sigh

$500 a month in college is dirt cheap. I pay $480 just for rent and utilities in my apartment. Factor in food, monthly metropass, tuition fees, phone bill, internet and recreational spending and it adds up.
