How much money/month about?

I'm going to enter college this fall (Texas Christian, Go Frogs!), and had a question about money.

I'm in Army ROTC, so I get $300/month from that, and do you guys think that is enough to get by with?

I'm going to be busy with Rugby, ROTC, a Fraternity, and academics, so I would like to avoid getting a campus job if possible.

My parents will help with some basic stuff I'm sure (since I have a full-ride), but as far as my "spending money" goes, that will be it. Should I get a campus job? Or do you guys think I will be good?

(Also, I understand this varies from person to person, just looking for a guesstimate)

learn to budget and it will.

My internship this summer is in Fort Worth! Great city.

And at most colleges, that’d be fine. TCU is rather notorious for being a college for wealthy kids to go to, so they may be spending more (a lot more) than that, but for your average expenses, you should be fine. I’ve run into similar problems at Vandy, but my friends understand that since I’m paying for all of my activity fees – movies, shopping, groceries, whatever – that I can’t quite afford all of the same stuff they do. My friend gave me a great piece of advice before coming in: “Just because they’re rich doesn’t mean you are.”

Remember that and you’ll be totally fine. Enjoy your time here!

If you’re on a meal plan, you should be okay. I noticed that most of my money goes towards food (~$80/week on campus, ~$50/week off campus minimum) in a high priced suburb, which really adds up. If you have a car, insurance, gas and upkeep will probably take the entire $300, if not more in a month’s time.

Depends on how well you spend your money… Everyone spends a different amount of money each week so yeah… If you know your going to be using a lot of money then maybe asking your parents for more money works? Ask your parents to lend you money during the school year and you will pay them back when you get a summer job/internship? Since you said your joining a fraternity, keep in mind that it can get quite costly… Some houses have monthly or annual membership fees/dues, pledge fees, social fees, etc. Depending on your house, you might have to spend $1000 a year on membership fees. When you become a brother you might spend more money as well so yeah… keep that in mind and don’t spend much during the summer.
