How much more calc is there?!

I'm pre-econ/ international area studies and I hate calculus. Something about calc and biology just doesn't click in my brain. I barely scraped by Math 31A and B with a C and a C+, but my Econ 11 class is packed full of calculus. Can I expect the upper division Micro and Macro Theory classes to have this much calculus? Or am I in the clear after this quarter?
Thanks in advance.

101 will use a lot of partial derivatives (similar to 11).

102 I think will also use some, but I don't really remember.

Fantastic... I don't even know what a partial derivative is! Ahhh this is so stupid. Thanks though.

The calc in 11 and 101 is not hard. It'll probably be the basic stuff you learned in your first three weeks of 31a. And the way the core classes are taught pretty much just require you to do straight up problem sets. Just like in your math classes, ugh. I don't like math either, but it gets a lot better after the foundation classes. If you are doing pure econ, you can choose all of your upper div electives, as long as they are in three diff categories - so you can choose those econ classes that cover economic concepts through written analysis, discussion, and more of a philosophical/social standpoint instead of those classes that use predominantly equations, graphs, and quantitative methods.

trueblueforever, are you taking McDevitt for econ 11?

I don't know about Econ, but I'm an engineering major with a strong dislike for math (yea weird, I know). But I've found that it all depends on how math is being used. I have no problem with math when it comes to solving physical or engineering problems. If you really love Econ, you'll start liking to solve Econ problems and you'll learn to use math as a tool (which is all that it is).

With that said, the math in 31A and 31B is really not too bad. And 31B is the harder one, and I don't think you'll ever be seeing that again (infinite series in UG econ?). For 31B, just practice a lot on your own and it will become second nature.

im econ/international area studies. all i have to say is...you should have taken 32a and 32b. i will get on that next quarter
