I'm not too worried about being familiar with Cal nor am I too worried about making new friends (I've spent a summer at Cal, but that doesn't make me an expert). What I am worried about is whether or not I'm picking the right classes (an advisor would be helpful) and whether or not I'll get the classes I want.

I'm overseas atm, so heading to Cal for CalSO would be too much of a hassle, which means I'll have to sign up for courses after July 15. I've heard about this false anxiety where classes fill up the first few days it's available. Can anyone clarify this? Will I be able to pick the right courses and get the courses I want?

A preliminary schedule:
(4 units) Intro to American Politics
(4 units) Intro to Economics (Train)
(4 units) Math 1A
(1 unit) Psych 24 Seminar

You should sign up for American Politics, Econ, and Seminar 1st phase and Math 1A 2nd phase.

You should get all your classes but you might not get your choice of a teacher for Math1a, the psych seminar may be full, and you probably wont get the discussion times you want (unless waking up at 8 is your thing)

Note: You only have 13 units.
13 units is the minimum and is often recommended but from looking at some of my friends who did that, it becomes clear that it is quite possible that you may become weak sauce come spring when you take a 'real' load of 15/+ units. I would strongly recommend at least two more units on that schedule.

cnat: Just wondering, why will I get the other classes? Is it because they’re less popular? Or they have enough teachers to accommodate for all students?
anon5524485: I will look into that, haha.

Why are some courses 3 units but take up more class/discussion time than 4 unit courses?
