How much of a reach is NYU?

I know that it's a definite reach, with my stats, but how much of a chance do I stand? I definitely have other choices/safeties, but I've been looking at NYU a lot lately and really like it.

-I'm a white/Jewish female junior in a large public high school in Pennsylvania.
-My unweighted GPA is 3.77.
-I've done honors for everything except for science, and after freshman year, I did "accelerated college prep" math. All of my averages are B's and A's...I think -I'll have 6 B's and 17 A's on my transcript.
-My school really doesn't offer a lot of AP classes, and only two can be taken before senior year. The ones I'll have taken are AP Statistics, AP American History, and possibly (if they let me in) AP Biology. However, my German 5 and Humanities classes are weighted AP, if that makes any difference whatsoever.

My schedule for senior year is:
College Prep Calculus
German V Honors (weighted as AP)
Honors Humanities (weighted as AP)
College Prep Physics
Honors Politics and Economics
AP American History
History of American Film
College Prep Behavioral Science

*I might be substituting AP Biology for College Prep Physics and College Prep Behavioral Science, if I can make up my mind.

SATs: (the worst part) 640CR 560M 620W - I've been reviewing like CRAZY, and took a three hour practice test two days ago, where I scored a 690CR, 620M, and 650W. I'm retaking them on May 3rd.

Extracurriculars include: I'm in the National Honors Society and am running for Secretary (hope I get it), I'm treasurer of the History Club at school, I've received awards for a German oral exam and a written exam. Second place in the speaking one and 85th percentile in the written one. I did Quizbowl for a year. I've got a part-time job that I've held for almost a year, and I might be promoted to a monitor.

How much of a reach is NYU, and how can I improve my chances without applying ED? I don't want to get stuck with a school I can't afford. I'll be applying for CAS in the fall. Anything I can do?

By the way, I am taking the SAT II's in June.

NYU has an awful admissions process right now. It's admission rate has dropped to 24%, about the same as Duke and Cornell...insane

Has it really? Where'd you find this? It's said 37% wherever I've looked...If 24% is the case, then I don't stand a chance.

Admission rate drops to 24%, lowest in years - University

Yea it's sortof depressing, I really love NYU too but now it's competitive as heck

I would say you have an maybe-okay chance since you didnt take many APs. 2 girls I know from high school got into NYU, and theyre bimbos (except one of them is not quite as dumb). I got in a year or two ago but thinking about the 45k+ per year was too much for me.

There honestly aren't many more AP classes I could have taken...we've got AP Calculus, but I'd literally die in that class. Then there's AP Biology and AP Physics. That's it for my school. We do have a few AP-weighted classes, and after German V, I'm taking the AP exam. Will that be taken into consideration at all?

Can anyone tell me whether AP Biology or Honors Physics would look better on a transcript? I can't take both. If I don't take physics, then I won't have a physics course on my transcript.

AP looks better. Have you considered summer school?

I have, but it costs money, and my family and I are pretty tight on that right now.

well, if you're tight on money then NYU is a terrible choice. it has one of the worst, if not the worst, financial aid programs in existence. i'd say you have a decent shot at admissions though. if anything, you need to raise your SAT scores... study a lot and try and get everything above 650ish.

Yes, I know how bad NYU is with finaid, but I REALLY like it and am partly willing/crazy enough to pay the price later on. I might regret it, but, hey, I might want to get a doctorate, too, and that's going to cost a lot of money no matter what.

yea but going to nyu is like getting a doctorate, or even more. Overpriced undergrad is so not worth it

Don't judge a book by it's cover - sometimes they give nice merit scholarhips or financial aid. Most of the time they don't, but they still might so don't let anyone discourage you from applying, just have backups.
