How much of a reach?

BU is the college I want to go to the most. But I know its going to be a bit of a reach for me to get in. Can anyone tell me exactly how far off I am to getting accepted?

SAT- 1820 total (retaking in October)

570 CR
620 M
630 W

Math II Subject Test- 610

GPA- 3.2 (UW) and 3.78 (Weighted); Both are on a 4.0 scale

Class Rank- Top 15%

EC- Outdoor Track, Indoor Track, Math Team, and Peer Tutoring

Member of National Honors Society in my school and I have completed around 58 hours of Community Service at Rhode Island Hospital

Course Load- Physics II honors, Chemistry II honors, AP Calculus, Spanish IV honors, Anatomy & Physiology honors

I am a senior and applying Regular Decision

apply early decision and you will have a better chance of getting in

Thanks for the reply. I don’t think I want to do Early Decision, though. BU is so expensive, and I can’t risk being binded to go to the school if they don’t offer me any kind of financial aid.

^ That’s not how it works. If you are accepted ED asking for FA, but they don’t offer you enough aid to enable attendance (it’s your decision, not theirs), you can decline the offer and apply elsewhere RD.

The Common Application ED FA rule:

Oh, wow I never knew that. Thanks for letting me know!

So, what are my chances RD vs. ED?

ED will increase your chances only slightly compared to RD. I’d still say it’s a reach with your GPA/rank and SATs. If you can raise your score to a 2000+ your chances will be better.

It also depends on which school within BU you are applying to. Some programs are more competitive than others. As of right now, it is a reach though either way.

apply ED bro, id say u got a shot if u apply ED but if u apply RD u got no chance.

Wow, do I really have no chance? I know it’s a reach, but is it still maintainable? I’m applying as a Business/Computer Science double major, So I’m applying to the School of Management and College of Arts and Sciences.

I really appreciate that you guys are being honest. I don’t want my hopes to be set too high, only to get completely rejected.

If I really have no shot at BU, what do you guys think of my chances at Uconn?

i am being honest your UW gpa is a bit low… if you really really like BU and want to attend apply ED, you have the best chance you get a spot if you apply ED, if you apply RD your chances of getting accepted are much lower.

If you really want to go to BU, you could apply for the less competitive majors and also ask to be considered for CGS.

Honestly you’re better off doing cs at your state flagship or at schools like PennState, UIUC, or UWashington…
