how much of a walk to ...

From IWU's website...

Illinois Wesleyan's campus is located in a historic residential neighborhood just north of the downtown Bloomington business district,

Can you tell me about much of a distance it is to the Bloomington down town, in miles? Do students walk there ever?

Is the IWU campus walking distance to coffee shops in case a student want to 'get some fresh air'?

Final question (anyone can take any of these that they know of): is there bus service for the campus to get around BLoomington?

JCD:

Do you read the websites for any college? Call up any admission office and ask your questions direct? Are you addicted to asking for the sake of asking? Is CC your 'research' site, when the internet has so much detailed information about colleges, their towns, restaurants etc.

IWU is located on Main Street (Rt 150) in Blloomington. That is the MAIN street in both Bloomington and Normal. The campus is just two blocks from the downtown area (which extended for about a half mile or so southwards).

A mile or so from IWU starts Illinois State's campus.

There are shops of varing kinds all up and down Main Street. However there is an excellent coffee facility and 'Tommy's" a hide-a-way eatery in the Hansen Student Center.

However, why believe me or any other poster? Check the college's site, google Bloomington, call the college directly (if afraid to call admissions, although I can't imagine why not - still the public information office on any campus will gladly answer such questions). or call the C of Commerce in Bloomington.

BTW, the campus has plenty of 'fresh air', and multiple places to relax, including a really terrific library.

I have way more on my mind to answer meganvirg. But meganvurg, that was way out of line. I am not doing anything wrong in asking reasonable questions on this website. The cc moderator would pull me if it were not so. But your personal flame here was wrong. One is not supposed to 'feel bad' in reading a simple entry in this site. And I feel bad now.

Do you really care, and track, what I enter in this forum? There are hundreds of thousands of entries going on in all sorts of ways on CC. Why not simply ignore my 'stupid questions'? In fact, cc moderator, I would ask that you pull meganvirg's post and my answer here. Others should not have to vicariously experience bad feelings unecessarily. CC moderator, feel free to pull me, too, for violating cc policy, if you so deign.

Obviously I read websites. I inhale them. I quoted IWU's website above, in fact. THEY DO NOT GIVE THE WHOLE PICTURE. What does IWU's 'just north' reference really mean, practically speaking? Steps? Blocks? Miles? USNR says there is 'bus service' with a little check mark in their big book. I knew that. But what does that mean practically to the students? IWU says that they have an Oxford program. Based on that statement, can I assume that my daughter will get to go to Oxford as a study abroad venture at IWU?

College websites give a part of the picture. Posters such as yourself who might have real experience in the area might be able to give a bit more of the picture.

College websites, while full of info, are really marketing sites. It is goes without saying that one should have a reasonable skepticism on what they say.

Why not pick up the phone and call the college? I can. I do. The internet, and cc in particular, is another way to get the story. CC works better with my schedule.

The subject of CC is academics. Haven't you heard the saying, 'There is no wrong question?' It is about active inquiry, getting different points of view, and synthesizing them to make a reasonable conclusion. It is about rationality.

btw, meganvirg, thanks for the info on IWU. I even visited the campus last summer, so I could not recall the fine logistical detail you added. It really helped.

joecollegedad - sent you a pm

joecollegedad,

I apologize for the poster who slammed you (because I don't think he/she/it will apologize). I hope your employment search efforts are going well.
