How much of an impact are AP scores in admissions? Or is taking it simply an indication that a student took a difficult class, and followed through on it? Will a score of 3 or lower knock you out of the running considerably... like... say... a poor SAT score would?

I think AP scores are used to see if you actually learned the subject and to see if your grades are inflated. If you get a bad score on a AP test you can just withhold the score.

What score would make them think negatively about my AP classes? 1 or 2?

Yes, those would be bad.

If you get a 3 at least send it, because colleges will look down on you if you too the class but don't send scores, but if you do get a 1 or a 2 don't send them
