I was wondering ACADEMICALLY how much of a difference is SHC in comparison to Penn State? I know there are about 150 honors courses (mostly for gen ed though) but I assume the rest of my classes will be normal classes with maybe a 100+ students. I know about the research, the senior thesis, and the first choice in picking classes. But in terms of actual classroom atmosphere/students/work/learning is SHC pretty much like normal Penn State?

My information is based on second-hand experience. I believe the biggest difference is in the freshman living environment. At SHC, you would be surrounded by historically high achievers in a building with the Dean’s office in it. I have heard stories that the east dorms have a completely different atmosphere. I consider this an important part of your academic environment. Don’t underestimate the perks. The perks, particularly the early registration and the SHC brand will make a tangible difference. All these seemingly peripheral factors do change the academic experience and possible offer greater access to academic opportunities. That said, you will learn what you need to at your regular PSU classes. I hear many stories of wildly-successful non-Schreyer PSU academic and resulting professional experiences. There is a difference, but you control what that difference is.
