I currently studying my brains off for the SAT which I'll be taking sometime this winter.
I can say that I was quite shocking seeing so many people on the chance forum getting 800 on BOTH math and reading.
I did a Princeton Review practice test and scored 1840. Is it good for the first time I take a test?
How much practice do I need to score at least 2300 this winter?

I think it’s good for the first time, but I think you’re a little bit late for studying the SAT. After all, it really required huge amount of time for me. Check out what you’re weak at basically. To me it’s really really hard to improve from a 2000. It’s not about how many practices you should take, but what you can gain, in the fastest way, by practicing. Reviewing is very important. I would say that math is the easiest to improve so getting a 700+ is not very difficult. At least in my opinion. I’m also taking the test in winter. Hope this helps and good lucks! :)

An 1840 using Princeton Review might not be the same as an 1840 using the Blue Book. Buy the official SAT guide and take the first test. If you’re having trouble in writing, I would recommend The Official Guide to SAT Grammar. For CR, the first thing you need to do is memorize vocab. You can find a list online or buy Essential 500 or Direct Hits. For the passage based questions, The Critical Reader is a pretty good book once you hit 600+. For math, the main thing to do is just practice and learn from your mistakes. Once you get to 700+, you can try to use Dr. Chungs book or PWN the SAT.

Jenniferlien: Why do you think it’s late? I mean, I took 10-day sessions in July and I have been doing exercises since then. On the first test I took (which was about a week ago) I scored a 1840.
I agree with the math. It’s quite easy to score more than 700.

Good luck to you! Thank you for your response.

Omnipotent: Our college counselor recommended The Princeton Review. They’re not available where I live so he had to provide us with the books which were directly shipped from the US. I know that the Blue Book is more reliable but do you think Princeton Review is easier than the blue book?
I’m using:
Houghton Mifflin for CR
Barron’s for Writing
Kaplan for Math
Princeton review for practice tests.

Because I have studied since last yr…I’m not a native speaker so my English is not very good, especially when it comes to reading but maybe it’s soon enough for u Good lucks :)

I haven’t used any of those books, but I think you should start off by taking an official test. Try googling for the SAT preparation booklet; it has a practice test in it that is very accurate.
