How much racism is there at BC?

Where I come from BC has a reputation for being a school that caters mainly to rich white people. I get that part, but what I would like to hear is stories from BC students and alumni who experienced some form of racism or discrimination at BC. It doesn’t only have to be stories of blatant discrimination, but more like stories of not feeling welcome and the atmosphere in general.

I was there for 5 days during the school year because I was considering the school. I was also concerned with this issue. Although the diversity isn’t very apparent in terms of race, students told me that racism was generally not an issue and everybody was accepting and welcome. Everyone has trouble fitting in initially, but the students there never said the reason they didnt find their niche yet was because of their race, if that makes sense.

I had sort of the same question, now that I’m here (I LOVE IT) I think that the biggest problem/issue would be the interaction. As a minority I’m usually one of the few in the groups of my friends, but I’m used to it. I think I great way to face it is keep your door open during the first week, you meet a lot of new people without even having to try super hard! But, everyone just has to put themselves out there and it makes it easier.

If they don’t want to be friends with you just based on your race or class, then move on, they wouldn’t be a positive to your college experience.
