How Much Scholarship$ are yall getting?

I just realized how expensive CU is and they only gave me a 15,000 chancellor scholarship or whatever. Are there bigger scholarships out there or is CU really bad about merit scholarships?

How much did yall get offered?

Did your scholarship offer come with your acceptance letter/packet? We found out on-line my son was accepted but haven’t gotten anything in the mail yet. We are hoping for some scholarship dollars but not sure what you need.

Are you out of state onthefly? What were your test scores/gpa?

My OOS son got his acceptance today with no scholarship offer, with a 31 ACT and 3.8UW. Maybe it comes later or maybe not but he has already had decent merit aid offers elsewhere so 40K plus a year without some merit aid probably won’t attract many OOS students.

Admissions say the top merit scholarships, which I believe are 1/2 tuition - go to the very, top apps. They said that usually means 4.0 UW …and perfect ACT - because they superscore the ACT.

I’d also like to know if folks are hearing about scholarships, and stats if they will share.

@centennialmom- Yes, the scholarship came with the acceptance letter, I’m OOS in the 26%ile(3.83W) with a 2190 SAT

@mom222- Ya I have gotten way better merit aid from every other school and my family will definitely not pay 40 grand a year when so many other schools are offering a similar education for far less money/

@matermia- i guess CU gets so many OOS kids that are willing to pay full freight that thtey don’t feel like they need to offer money to lure ppl to the school. 1/2 tuition is not even that great of a scholarship for those stats you mentioned imho

When you google Presidential Scholarships. for CU, they say the top ten percent of the top 25 percent of out of state applicants get the Presidential scholarshp. Who knows what stats you need? I wonder which is more important, the GPA or the ACT/SAT score or if they are equally important.

onthefly: how do you know you are in the 26%? Did they say that in your acceptance letter?

No merit aid for us. Son got his admission letter in mail today. 33 ACT, 3.5UW/4.1W in case others are curious. Accepted to engineering school-in state.

On the CU Facebook page a few weeks ago, someone asked about when they would hear about scholarships. The admissions people who run the facebook page, said that if you qualify for automatic scholarships, which I think they mean merit-based scholarships, you would receive information on them A FEW WEEKS AFTER RECEIVING YOUR ADMISSION PACKET IN THE MAIL. So for those of you who have received an admission packet already, and have not received aid, I would not despair. It sounds like if you qualify for scholarship, they will let you know in a few weeks after being admitted. My son still has not even heard from CU aboiut his admisiion decision, so you are way ahead of us! Hopefully he will hear by Monday, or so they say!

No I mean 26%ile of my high school class. I was in the top 20% of CUs accepted class i think because they offered the honors college and gave me the chancellors scholarship.

Hi onthefly,
How did you know you were in the top 20% of CUs accepted class?
When were you accepted?
My son is OOS and was accepted 1/8 to the aerospace engineering. His letter came about 2 weeks later. No information on scholarships or honors programs.
His numbers are 4.0 W ( no higher) 800 M 740 CR
A letter came on 1/26 with general information about applying for housing.
Has anyone heard what the stats are for the Presidential scholarship? Are scholarships only notified by mail?
Thanks to all.

On the University of Colorado Admissions Facebook page a few weeks ago, someone from the admissions office stated that should you be offered a scholarship, a letter would arrive a few weeks AFTER receiving the admissions packet. So, it sounds like you still might have a good chance to get one…I think they are only notified by mail. You could post a question on the Facebook page and the admissions staff are real good about answering the questions fairly quickly. My son is hoping for one also. But who knows? Let me know if you find out anything…

hockeymom33: By the way, my son was just accepted yesterday for aerospace engineering also… Maybe the two of them will meet…We are from Los Angeles…

if it didnt say anything about money in my acceptance letter, does that mean i did not get any scholarships?

No. Read Rousse’s post…two posts above yours^

oh okay thnaks.

There’s a 4000k/year scholarship for engineering freshmen with ACT English and Math>=33.

Anyone think I have a good shot at the Chancellor’s Scholly? It is for OOS’s I believe and it is based on GPA and test scores. I believe if you get into the top 25% you automatically get on ($13,000 a year).

My ACT w/ Writing was 33 (36/36 science)
GPA was 3.7 W

I don’t think so.

ckl22, i think you will get the chancellors, I got it with a 3.8w and 2190 so you’re right on track

Yeah that’s what I figured. I think our high test scores kind of put us over the hump…at least enough to get into the top 25 percentile.
