How much scholarship money can you get on a good standardized test score alone?

Title says it.

Depends on the school. A lot of standardized test score scholarships at schools also include a minimum GPA component.

For example…

Act 32+ or 1400 sat m+cr. 3.5 gpa. Full tuition out of state The University of Alabama. Worth about $80,000

for similar stats at other schools -
aprox. 13K/yr. (52K total undergrad) - U Nebraska, Drexel, SLU, Baylor

Knowing just an amount without context won’t tell you much. It’s more important to know whether the amount will cover all or half or whatever portion of tuition. Also it helps if the amount increases as tuition increases.

Yeah, lets just say that I’m a very smart and capable guy that needs to compensate for past grades…

Ok…so what is your GPA (grades 9-11 ) weighted?

What are your ACT & SAT scores (including SAT breakdown)?

We need that info to give accurate info.

Also, what’s the deal? Are you in need of merit money? If so, fine. Deadlines are quickly approaching, so let’s “cut to the chase” so we can help you. :)

Can you/your family contribute anything towards your education? If so, how much?

Not sure where you are, but for Missouri residents, a score of 32 on the ACT gets you a Bright Flight Scholarship worth $2,000 a year (if you attend a MO institution). That was the first one that came to mind, but I found more by looking at the Missouri Dept of Ed website, so check and see if your state has a similar program.

^^^

For an ACT 32 (which is the 99th percentile), giving someone $2,000 a year really isn’t much. I know it’s better than nothing, but there are many other very good schools that will reward an ACT 32 with a lot more money.

I should add to my post #3.

A University of Alabama rep told me yesterday that with a strong test score, UA will consider a GPA that is 3.0 or better for scholarships. So, that’s better news.

Because of strong OOS recruiting, Alabama’s freshmen classes now have about 40% of students coming from OOS.

In The University of Alabama’s Fact Book…I just found this amazing statistic!

GEOGRAPHICAL ORIGIN OF ALL NEW ENTERING STUDENTS

FALL TERM - The University of Alabama

… 2006… 2007… 2008
Freshmen*
Alabama …2,898 …3,035 …3,207
Out-of-State … 1,451 …1,478 …1,877
Foreign… 29… 25… 32

Subtotal…4,378… 4,538… 5,116

Last year, about 40% of the freshmen class was OOS.

That’s true, mom2collegekids, it’s not a ton of money. However, it is automatic and, from what I remember, it’s only based on the ACT score. I got curious and wanted to confirm that and found they had changed things a bit since I was in school. Starting with the 2010-2011 school year, you have to be in the top 5% (which is apparently a 30) to qualify. If you’re in the top 3% (31 or higher) you get $4,000 a year (2k each semester). And this is renewable for up to 10 semesters.

Not sure where I got that 32 was the minimum. In any case, I mentioned Bright Flight because it’s not a school specific scholarship (it’s a state scholarship), not based on grades, and automatic. School specific, I checked out the U of MO and Missouri residents with an ACT score of 33, plus an “excellent high school academic record” can get you full fees, room, board and books.

Here is a list from USNR from which you can cull scholarships data. Not sure how meaningful it is since, apparently, you cd be receiving $500 for some scholarship and make it on their ‘pct receiving merit aid’ list.

[Best Colleges - Education - US News and World Report](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/most-merit-aid)

THere is also this link to a list of colleges that supposedly will meet all need w/o loans.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/907243-51-colleges-best-financial-aid.html</a></p>

the U of Alabama sounds like a record breaker. Is there some sort of fine print that there is only 10 of them available, eg? Since it is a public state U, my guess it will tend to be not uber selective.

-60 pct of apps get acceptance at U of A

It would be nice to have a list of colleges w/ such cool merit scholarships, showing scores needed, GPA needed, and amount given.

CC info hounds, any such list or website around?

I found this
<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid;

But the 'autmatic academic scholarships ’ might be what the OP was getting at (except for that pesky GPA thang), and maybe what the U of A person was citing. HEre is another one, but nowhere near as good as the U of A deal (9k out of what, 30 someK tution plus room and board?)
http://scholarships.indiana.edu/pages/automatic.php</a></p>

google
But U of Min- morris apparently bests IU w/ this…
[University of Minnesota Morris | Admissions | Scholarships, Costs & Financial Aid | Scholarships | Automatic Academic Scholarships](http://admissions.morris.umn.edu/costsaid/scholarships/automatic/)

but I just noticed that it says ‘First-year Students’. I wonder if this award is not renewable? something to check into, all.

also, when looking to the numbers based academic scholarships, one must be clear on which gpa is used

Here is some clarification on IU’s website…

“Which GPA is used for Automatic Academic Scholarships?
When students apply for admission to IU, whichever cumulative GPA on the student’s transcript is higher (weighted or unweighted) will be utilized for admission and scholarship consideration”

continuing …

U of Kentucky will give you $3k…
http://www.engr.uky.edu/scholarships/</a></p>

Beloit has merit scholarships, but they are not automatic
<a href=“Tuition & Aid • Admissions • Beloit College”>Tuition & Aid • Admissions • Beloit College;

U of Minn - moorhead wants you to weather the cold and warm their seats, and will give you $2,000 for your 28 ACT.

There is, of course, this link to a 5 yr old and 50 page thread in CC, but I guess it seemed so anecdotal - like what I am developing (is there a book, a website or a list with the goods distilled, score needed, gpa needed, other hard criteria specified, how many are available, renewability etc?)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/63770-best-schools-give-most-merit-based-aid.html</a></p>

and I found this thread that attempts to better get at what the OP wants

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/848226-important-links-automatic-guaranteed-merit-scholarships.html</a></p>

The above thread might be the most current.
