How much should I expect to pay?

Accepted and filled out scholarships app. 29 ACT weighted GPA: 4.1 unweighted GPA: 3.8 in state hope scholarship. Will be living in dorm or suite. How much scholarship money should I expect and can you summarize costs to give me a good estimate of what I would be paying.

Did you apply for a scholarship prior to the 11/1 deadline? If so you will be considered for all scholarships. The first rounds of Volunteer and university scholarships have been awarded. The Chancellor scholarships have been chosen or will be chosen this week. There are also additional scholarships depending on your major. If you have not applied for scholarship, you may be out if luck. Additional Volunteer and university scholarships MAY be awarded but are not guaranteed. Of course it looks like you do qualify for 4,000 hope and 1,000 in GAMS from the lottery

I have detailed the cost breakdown in another post. Since I am on my phone, I can’t repost yet. I will try to get to it tonight

Oh I see you did apply. I suspect your 29 ACT is probably not high enough for the Volunteer Scholarship. I think that is somewhere around a 31 or 32. The University scholarship is around 1,500. Not sure if their cut off score. Good luck.

When will they let me know what scholarships I am rewarded?

UT seems to piecemeal their acceptance notifications.

We have received our notification about the Volunteer Scholarship. But I have read that some people didn’t get notifications last year until Feb.

I spoke with someone last week and they are suppose to mail the Chancellor Scholarships sometime this week. The Haslam Scholarship finalist are suppose to be notified sometime before the end of the month.

You may want to call and check on the Institutional Scholarships - you never know if the letter was lost in the mail.

Of course the cost can (and probably will) go up, but here are the current year in-state amts.

From http://web.utk.edu/~bursar/Fall2012FeesUG.pdf</a>
In state tuition - $9,092

Residence Halls - UT Knoxville | University Housing
Double Occupancy for this year was about $5,000 to $5,500 per semester.

Dining Plans - UT Dining - About $3,600 per semester.

they estimate books to be just under $2K
Transportation at $1,600 (that is highly volatile based on your specific situation)
Miscellaneous needs - $3,600 (again - this will change based on your needs and taste - I am budgeting significantly less for S)

Hope this helps

I have not received a volunteer scholarship, but I believe I qualify for it. I think the cutoff score for University is 29, so you should have $1,500 coming your way. I called them yesterday, and they said they sent out the second round of scholarships at the end of last week. I haven’t received one either. I just check my UT VIP account, and it says it updated yesterday at noon. It hasn’t done that since the week I got accepted into UT. Fingers crossed.

Where are you looking to see that your account was updated. Mine still says the day my application was complete on the application page. We have gotten notification that we got the Volunteer (34 ACT and 4.34 GPA). We could so use the Chancellor Scholarship.

Nevermind - it is 12/8. I bet that was the day we were awarded the Volunteer Scholarship. Looks like our hopes of a Chancellor will not happen. Also, some people already have Haslam interviews scheduled, so I am guessing that is a no go too. Didn’t really expect that one, but hey we tried.

I hope I get to offer you a congratulations soon Ivy.

I hope so. I have a 35 act and still no scholarships. It isn’t my first choice, but it would be nice to know I have a backup plan if other scholarships don’t turn out. I applied in mid- October and I didn’t receive acceptance intil mid- December. I think my application keeps getting overlooked. Hopefully this week I’ll here something.

S’s original first choice is the other school i have seen you on. He spent two weeks this summer in their summer program. But two weeks before the application deadline, he decided it wasn’t where he wanted to go. It is an awesome school. Good luck on your interviews.

Well no chancellor scholarship in the mail today either. Looks like i will have to start buying red stuff soon.

Admissions told me they sent out more scholarships late last week. Given the long weekend, I still have hope for mail tomorrow. After tomorrow, I just might call and bother them about not getting the volunteer scholarship. All that is required is a 32 ACT score, correct?

I am not sure, but I didn’t think it was based solely on scores. S has a 34. With a 35, I would think that you would get it too. Last year, people reported not getting some of their notifications until late.
