no one here is arguing that all kids need a four year college degree, only that kids who are bright enough to benefit from one, should have access.

Actually, that’s exactly what is argued in post #290, although that begs the question of who is bright enough to benefit from one:

#290 Nowadays a college degree is necessary for a good, stable job. It’s to the 21st century and the knowledge economy what a high school diploma used to be in the 20th with skilled/trade jobs. Recognizing this, our ancestors made high school readily accessible and free, the first country to do so, often 50 or 60 years before other developed countries.
