how much stuff to bring to uni?

Hi, I am an incoming freshman who just began packing
I just realized I have roughly about 3 to 4 suitcases worth of clothes + and other stuff (like xbox 360) and etc
is that way too much for a double room in oxford?

in addition, how many suitcases do students usually bring to their dorms when they're freshman?
Thanks in advance for the answers!

p.s i’m an international student

If you are an international student, I believe you are only allowed to bring 2 suitcases max. Other than that, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. You can always pack some of your clothes if you are not wearing them, just to save some space.

? Why the limitation on suitcases? That’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard… You can bring as many as you need as long as you have a place to store them.

I brought one carry-on and one large luggage bag of clothes, as well as basic toiletries when I moved in last Sept. It’s more convenient to buy the things you need at Ann Arbor imo, instead of having to lugging them around from country to country. You can also buy clothes here.

I store most of my stuff at a storage place in AA for the summer and just fly back.

There is no limit on the number of suitcases.

I wouldn’t recommend bringing more than two, since you can buy most things in Ann Arbor when you get there.

If you bring too much stuff it can become a hassle putting it all in storage at the end of the year.

i was thinking of buying things online and stuff and having them shipped to my dorm. would that be a good idea?

sorry…I meant that the airport only allows two pieces of big luggage if you’re travelling to america from overseas…

michiganbound: yeh i was thinking about that too. btw does anyone know if i order stuff just before i arrive (aug 26, i’ll be able to move into my dorm then because of orientation), will i be able to get them? If my packages arrive before aug 26, will the dorm receive them?

I’m an incoming freshman, and I’m doing something similar to shipping…I’m going to a target and a bed bath and beyond close to me and having them hold the items I want at their Ann Arbor locations. That way my family just has to drive up without toting all my stuff around and we pick it up on the way to campus. Just an idea…
