Today i set a personal record, finishin the 16-question section in 13 minutes .It was from a Princeton review practice test.I usually finish in 15-16 minutes this 16 question section, but missing 1 or 2 questions, now i didnt got a single error :)
I usually finish the 20 question sections in 18-19min and the 18 qustion sections in 20-22 minutes (the gridins always slow me down because even the smallest mistake can is painful)

i actually take almost all 25 mins, haha as u can probably tell math isnt one of my strengths
anyways sorta off topic but do u guys have any tips/tricks for the math section? how REALLY do you complete them so quickly lol

Well, people who do the problems so quickly can think logically very fast.Straightforward questions like circles inscribed in squares or eq.triangles take seconds to be solved. However, there are questions like ''how many positivie 3-digit-integers less than 200''
that need more time. There are also this type of questions involving cubes with different symbols on their faces that also take some time. But if you know the math concepts ,you only need about 10 minutes to solve 14-15 questions, and 4-5 additional minutes to solve 4-5 logical problems.
And as I said, the gridins require all your focus because if you solve a difficult problems and instead of gridding 9.845 ,you grud 8.45 ,this can kill you. These types of problems require more time ,but the straightforward questoins are easy

15 minutes to do the 25 min section. 10 minutes for the 20 min section.

It usually takes me close to the entire allotted time. Math's my weakest section.

I'm pretty good at math I like to think and I'm lucky if I even finish the section in time.

Never understood how people fly so quickly and accurately, I took the SATs twice in 2004 and scored 540 each time... and I thought that was good. :O

^ That's about average for males. Pick up any SAT1 Math prep book that isn't PR or Kaplan, study through it and you should begin improving greatly.

Just practicing SAT math will improve your score.

"15 minutes to do the 25 min section. 10 minutes for the 20 min section. " Yes I agree.

What about the other sections? How long should those take?

i used to leave about 10 min extra, but i always had a few stupid mistakes. now i'm very focused on the math sections (because i know i can get an 800 - i ALWAYS make 2-3 idiotic arithmetic mistakes) and finish w/about 5-7 min remaining

about 7-8 minutes. i think my speed really helped me. i basically took each math section two-three times, and then got time to rest. but what's kind of funny is that the 16 question sections usually take me longer than the other ones haha

I use close to the whole time. I simply take my time, make sure I didn't misread the question or mess up. It's much easier to catch mistakes as you are doing the problem than when you're flipping back through the test to check for errors. And, of course, I consistently score a total of 0 or 1 wrong throughout the whole practice test.

On my one and only mock test this weekend, the three sections combined took me a little less than 9 minutes...

DataBox, you should try the lsat for kicks.

DataBox ,56 problems in 9 minutes ?
Absurd

DataBox is a USAMO qualifier, though. This stuff's definitely easy for him!

Wait, doesn't the LSAT only test analytical reasoning and reading?

Yeah, I know, but I can tell you for a fact that I didn't fare nearly as well on CR =(

And thanks, Arachnotron, although I did miss a psat math question earlier this year...

Can anyone explain why the CR section is like 10x harder than the math one does anyone else feel this? I finish the math sections with a few minutes to spare but for the CR I dont even finish every single question, to those people who did better on CR than math, how did you??

I usually finish the 25Q section in 10-12 minutes, and the 16Q section in 9-10 minutes.

My problem with math, is misreading or making a silly mistake; it's not like I'm flying through the problems, but I make a ton of stupid mistakes. I got like a 650 math, when I knew the answer to every question, but one (should have been around 770-780). Any advice?
