What do you use your computer for? My guess is that the time you spend is 10% educational, at max.

Do you feel that you spend too much time on your pc doing stupid stuff and wasting valuable time? Do you find that often, your hand gravitates toward your keyboard? Have you ever blamed poor school performance on time you COULD'VE had, had you not spent so much time on the pc?

Or is school so busy that you don't even have time to be on your computer?

What can you say about your roommates or floormates? Do you see lots of students just messing around? What do they usually do on their computers?

Are the dorms even a good place to study?

I just want to collect some observations of students at ucla.

would you guys say that you are semi- or fully-addicted to the computer/internet?.......... to the point where you get bored and HAVE TO find some other stupid thing on the internet to keep yourself occupied?

Do you acknowledge that you have an addiction, but find it super hard to quit anyway?

Are you or your roomates constantly looking up at your screen every 15 minutes during studying to type instant messages?

Is there an Internetaholics Anonymous on campus.......? If not, there should be!!! Cuz it looks like it's become epidemic.

My family is worried about my brother, who starts UCLA in a few weeks. He chats for hours everyday. Not only is it a waste of time, but it's probably distracting for the person on the other end too.
I think it will surely have a massive negative impact on his studies. Don't you?
If you were a parent, would you confiscate the computer?

I mean, I bet you know lots of people who just have their fingers glued to the keyboard, wasting this golden opportunity they have at UCLA. no?

haha I'll admit my internet addiction :)
But no, I don't think that being on AIM a lot will definitely negatively impact one's academics. As long as you know how much you need to do academics-wise each week and stick to that, do whatever you want the rest of the time. I'm sure he did the same thing during the school year in high school, and he got into UCLA, so it couldn't have hurt him too much then. I don't see why it should be much different.

During school, i'm usually spend my free time sleeping so i don't have the time to surf the web. I've fallen asleep at the computer several times :). One time i dosed off and head darted towards the keyboard. But during vacation, when i've got nothing to do, that's another story. I play absolutely mindless games, check my email, write on forums, check my facebook, listen to music, and go on aim. I'm addicted for now...

nah. He got B's and C's. And senior year totally went to the sh1tter. Failed Calc B, and is now enrolled for Math 31A.....

Oh yeah. and the problem is that people tend to underestimate how much time they need to study. It would be all good if you could just wait till the end of the quarter to reply to all your instant messages. But obviously that's not how it happens. People chat while studying, and they don't realize how much time they've wasted because 15 minute blocks don't FEEL like a lot. But they do add up.

i'll admit my internet addiction too. if it negatively impacts my grades, i will cut back, but it hasnt (yet). most of the time my AIM-ing is to ask questions about homework or something, or helping someone else out with homework. most of m time is wasted on forums.

oh, what do you know...this is a forum too. :D

I'm addicted. But I've also discovered in the last few weeks that I hate my computer and the stupid internet. But I'm so bored I have to go back to it(like now.) Others' problems may be forums, but dang it, collegehumor.com is addicting. Finish the articles and hotlinks, and you have a massive supply of pictures and movies.

wow! Six tasks. You've got a part-time job right there, and you're not even getting paid for it

Bravo, if you can resist doing all that junk on the computer.

I know that some people HAVE TO get their internet fix everyday.
