How much time do you spend studying?

I'm a chem major and I'm taking bio and calc this semester. This question is directed specifically at people who do well in school, you know, the 4.0 people. Anyways, the last two semesters all my classes have consisted of a grading system that was almost entirely based on tests so to do well in the class you really have to KNOW the material. I have not been doing as well as should be and I think one of the reasons why is because I don't spend enough time studying but I still study a lot, or so I think. I spend on average about 10 hours a week seriously doing homework, and about 5 hours walking back and forth around my house "doing" homework.

average 7-8 hours per day. I am also a science student.

I’m an engineering student doing lots of math and science with only tests for grades. I’d say in a week with no tests I spend about 10 hrs per class doing homework(optional, doesn’t get turned in or count for anything), learning the material, and practicing problems. On a test week maybe 20-25 hrs per week per test. The more time I spend on my work in non-test weeks the less I have to study in test weeks.

Depends on the class. Anywhere from 0-10 hours/week. I don’t study much, but I have a good memory.

5 to 8 hours a day

As an econ major taking 5 courses (20 quarter hours), I spend about 3-4 hours per day total. I dedicate specific days to specific courses and two of my courses do not require nearly as much study time as the others. Also, I usually find myself studying/doing hw on my days off (Friday-Sunday).

@ChengStat,Ace6904… up to 8 hours…A DAY!!!

Christ. I’m surprised if I study more than 2 hours the day before a test. I have a ridiculously good memory and am holding onto a 3.688 GPA right now (sophomore in second semester) but I know I can study a bit harder.

Essentially, it matters what type of a memory you have, how much fun you want to have and how much you care about your grades. I have a great memory, so I can manage good grades and a lot of free time (though I know if I tried harder I could have a 4.0). I’m taking 19 credits right now and am on track as a math/physics dual major.

Also, are we counting homework as “study time”? If so, I average about 2-4 hours of studying per night. If not, 2-4 hours of studying per week.

I have a 4.0, and I find that Cal Newports “shadow course” works well for me. Basically, for every hour in class, I spent an hour outside of class reviewing the material, doing problems, etc. This consistently earns me As:)

Princess - I loveee Cal Newport. I read study hacks religiously.

Hi, for someone with a long bus ride coming up, can any of you guys recommend any of Newport’s books?
