How much to spend if you study in Paris or Italy?

I've trimmed down my choices to either study abroad in Paris or Italy during the spring semester of junior year. Aside from housing, how much do you expect (or if you have already done so) to spend on food, clothing, travels, etc studying abroad for five months? I'd like to travel around quite a bit but I'm not an awfully huge money spender.

Hey, just got back from spending a month in the south of France, then another month all over Europe. Italy is definatley cheaper than Paris… but in France, I spent about 700 euros for the month which included food, shopping (extra clothes, shoes, france phone, books, etc.) and some traveling. But room and major travel charges were covered in package before I left. But the exchange rate rapes you a bit so be careful- 700 euros becomes like $1000. So if you can, get a meal plan while you study abroad, or at least free breakfast bc it really adds up!

I spent a semester in Italy, and with traveling around Italy as where as traveling other places, I spent well over $5000, and that was being fiscally responsible most of the time. I traveled for 2 weeks after the program though as well, which added a good amount, but I would still say at least allot $5000 in spending money for food, traveling, souvenirs, etc.
