How much weight does the interview hold?

Well I had my Princeton interview today and it went extremely well. My interviewer is actually the cousin of my principal and close friends with a Board of Education member who wrote me a letter of reccomendation. He and I had most everything in common from our favorite book to our persepctive on politics and religion to our zodiac sign. When I told him about my passions he told me that it was exactly what Princeton was looking for. He assured me that I would get very high markings from him and I am just wondering how much pull his report will have in the application process. Thanks.

I don’t know, but mine went really well too so i hope it holds some weight lol

Not as much as you would think.

The weight of the interview is negligible relative to the other aspects of a college application. I could honestly only imagine it having a significant impact on one’s candidacy if the interviewer feels obligated to provide a negative (yet often sincere) opinion of an applicant.

My interviewer told me that I was “special,” “one in one hundred” (whatever that means), and that I had “nailed it.”

The interview has a negligible impact on admission.

The word on CC tends to be:

A good interview doesn’t help much. (It’s EXPECTED).
A bad interview can hurt.

Either way, neither one weighs much.

Most applicants seem to have fantastic interviews. To basically reiterate what R124687 stated, it is expected, given that the meeting is unstructured and most interviewers do not attempt to stump the student with difficult questions. Yet if a student is in any way psychotic, offensive, or inept, I believe that the admissions committee will definitely need to consider that even in the presence of more informative materials.

My Princeton interview was by far my most fun and casual (out of 4 interviews)-- my interviewer said it didn’t really hold weight, and its just so they can put a face to the paper.

^I had the same experience. My interviewer did not scribble down any notes but it was a fantastic conversation.

Wow. I had the exact same experience as well. I had a phone interview and she was absolutely fun to talk to although it was relatively short in length.

elle, mifune, 187: my interview experience was the same as well haha.

it was actually enjoyable and fun for me, and i believe my interviewer had some fun as well!

Probably like a group of homework assignments in a class. It can help a little, or hurt a little.

The interview really doesn’t matter too much. It’s just so that you can learn more about the school.

Yea, I’m pretty sure the interview doesn’t mean much. My interviewer just started talking about his own experiences and tried to answer any questions I had.
