How much will a C affect grad school chances?

Hi everyone,

I'm a junior bioengineering hoping to pursue a Ph.D in BioE/BME after I complete undergrad. So far I have a 3.78 GPA and in my six courses I would say that I'll likely get 4 A's, another could be an A or B, and then I'm worried about one course. Like most engineering courses the class average is low, and my grade is around average, probably in the low 70's overall. However, the professor just announced that he doesn't plan on curving the course at all. Obviously I plan on busting my butt the rest of the semester to get my grade up, and it may just be a scare tactic to make us not rely on a curve, but if I were to end up with a C would that kill any chance I have at a top PhD program?

One C is not going to kill you.

Even in my last semester before I apply?

You have a 3.78 in an engineering discipline. That’s insanely good.

If one C is the worst thing about your application, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Bioengineering is tough. One or two Cs might be expected in difficult coursework. I doubt they would care that much.
