How much will a double legacy to Harvard help me?

Hi, I'm new to CC and curious to know how much you think a double legacy would help me if I applied to Harvard. Both of my parents went to Harvard, but I don't think they give that much money because we're not rich.

Honestly, I didn't ever consider applying to Harvard until the other day my mom was surprised when I said I wasn't...

Anyway, I have a 4.7 weighted and 3.83 unweighted GPA at one of the most competitive high schools in the state. I'm president of Model UN and the Spanish club, I play three seasons of varsity sports (one of which I will be captain of next year), and I volunteer regularly at a local hospital as well as in a local homeless shelter. I am also a member of the student council. The past two summers I have worked in research labs at prominent hospitals and universities in my area.

I take all of the most advanced courses at my high school and have won several academic awards. Although I'm not certain as rankings have not yet been declared, I think I am in the top ten percent of my class.

My SAT scores were not great, so I'm planning on taking the ACT in September. For subject tests, I scored an 800 on US History and 760 on Math II.

So... thoughts? Would it be worth applying with my stats and double legacy?

It depends on your SAT and ACT.

Chance me back- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1664084-chance-me-for-top-colleges-will-chance-back.html#latest

You generally need to apply ED to get the legacy boost. If Harvard is your second choice (RD) despite your parents going, honestly you’ll have an average (less than 10%) chance to get in.

It would be a good idea for your parents to reach out to their local Harvard alumni association and see if they have any legacy admissions meetings coming up. It might be worth your while, and they’d clarify if applying RD would give you the legacy boost.

As for “not great” SAT, above 2000 might be good enough with all of your other stats.

Bump… I got a 33 on the ACT

@Zeana303 - It sounds like you are a qualified candidate with those scores and grades, so I suspect your application will get a boost from your legacy status. I agree with @rhandco that it would be to your advantage to apply early. Harvard is SCEA, not RD. The deadline is 11/1, so get busy if you want to go down that path!

Did both your parents attend Harvard as undergraduates? Only undergraduates are considered for legacy.
