How much will a grammar error hurt my chances?

I sent my application and supplement to Stanford about a month ago, and just today I realized that I left out a word on a sentence in one of the supplement essays. The sentence is grammatically incorrect, but anyone reading it would be able to understand what I meant to say. I'm guessing I can't do anything about it at this point, but how much does that hurt my chances of getting in? I feel terrible because Stanford was my top choice and I spent so long writing and editing these essays that I should have realized my mistake.

Don’t feel bad at all! If it was a Stanford supplemental essay, then I total understand having an error in at least one of them. I applied early too and was so confused as to why I couldn’t just copy and paste my essay into the box rather than having to type it out again. A format like this causes many grammatical mistakes, and I had to check mine multiple times after putting it into the box just to make sure it was clean (and I found quite a few errors). One grammar mistake on one essay isn’t going to hurt you. So don’t fret!

They understand that everyone applying as a freshman is about 17. 17 aren’t perfect and perhaps will never be perfect.

Unless your adcom is genetically programmed to be a jerk, that grammar error shouldn’t have an effect.

Best wishes!
