How Much Will Dropping Down Affect My Admission Chances?

I’m currently a sophomore in a competitive public high school planning to be a pre-med major or apply to an accelerated BS/MD or BA/MD program.

Math is my weakest subject. I took Algebra-2 Honors during my freshman year and dropped down. I ended the course with a C- due to pressure and the fact that I simply struggled with the material. My freshman year GPA ended up being a 3.46. Because I dropped down, I’m taking Pre-Calc 1 as a sophomore. In this track, I’ll be taking Calc 1 during my junior year and AP Stats as a senior. I’m simply not strong at math and I’m afraid this will greatly affect my chances of acceptance into these competitive accelerated med programs.

Currently, my GPA is solid (think all A’s). My grade in math drastically improved once I dropped down; however, my school makes it quite difficult for students to move up once they have dropped down. Unless I move up (with the chances being slim), I will not be allowed to take AP Calc AB or BC. How much will this affect my chance of admission on the base that I plan on majoring in the sciences? As a side note, my science track is currently quite strong.

Will dropping down greatly affect my chances of admission acceptance? What can I do to compensate for the grade outlier?
