I'll give a brief summary of my stats to give you some context:

GPA:
UW: 3.6/4, W: ~4.3/5, (20/24 core classes honors/AP)
Upward trend (3.8 UW since sophomore year)
GPA has been 3.7+ each year other than sophomore year due to switching schools (explained in Additional Information)

SAT:
2280 (700 CR, 800 M, 780 W)
780 Math II, 740 Literature

ECs:
Solid, but not incredible. Captain of the track team, 4 year varsity, founded school's winter track team, lots of youth ministry work, student teacher, musical, guitar etc.

Essays/Recommendation:
I have been told my essays are great, but who really knows? Same goes for recommendations, though I know one is great (I student taught for a teacher and he asked to write me a rec so it should be very good).

I've given myself about a 20% shot, I was wondering if you thought this is an accurate assessment. Thanks in advance.

I rarely reply to chance threads, but the legacy question adds an interesting wrinkle, so I’ll bite.

Legacy helps, but every year there are reports of strong legacies being rejected. It might come down to your class rank. Your GPA doesn’t look in range, but if your HS has grade deflation and you’re in the top 3% or so, your legacy status might help you slide in.

Thanks guys, unfortunately my school doesn’t rank, although I would definitely be in the top 10% (no idea exactly where), so it is what it is I guess.

i go to hs in Princeton and, speaking from years of observing PHS alums, a legacy can be very helpful, in addition to being related to a faculty member (rough numbers, my school usually has perhaps 50-60 admits and 30-40 matriculants to PU, at least half of whom are legacies or professors’ kids).

however, you also must be a strong candidate. it really comes down to your essays; i’ve seen friends of mine with 4.0s and 2400s be rejected because their essays weren’t interesting enough. my ex boyfriend got in last year (didn’t end up going) with a 3.4 UW gpa and no legacy.

also the strength of legacy is relative. one of my friends has a mom who did grad school at PU. another friend has parents/grandparents/brother/cousins/etc. who went to PU. the latter obviously has a much stronger legacy connection. both applied to PU REA, though obviously since it’s not the 15th yet i can’t tell you how their legacies have affected admissions. i will probably post again here after the 15th just for reference for future applicants though :)
