I got the May scores back today (first time I've taken the test) and I got a 2200 overall, with 690 CR, 710 M, and 800 W (11 on the essay, 77 on the MC). I'm in line for the National Merit program this fall (I got a 217 and I live in Tennessee, so my teachers seem to think I'll more than likely be a semifinalist). As far as college, my first choice is Tufts, and I'm also applying to Vanderbilt, UT at Knoxville, and a reach school like Brown or Swarthmore. So, my questions:

For the schools I want to get into, is my SAT score sufficient?
Will taking the test again benefit me? (I think I could have done better on the critical reading because I made quite a few dumb mistakes, but I'm not sure about the other two sections.)
Will these scores impress NMSC if I move to the semifinalist round this fall?

The scores are fine for these colleges. Your writing score is excellent anywhere, but your other scores are a little on the low side for some of these schools.

Does anyone know how competitive a 2210 composite score with 800 CR, 700 M, and 710W would be at Yale?

check the collegeboard’s school profile; if you are in the 25%-75% of scores for each section, you are fine. (higher in the range is obviously better)

Don’t worry about impressing NMSC. If your score qualified from your state, that’s it (you already have an SAT score in line with your PSAT). What you need to know is if the schools you are interested in are participating schools. There’s more scholarship money there than in the $2.5k award if that’s what you are worried about. If you think you’ll do better in the SAT (people usually do better after the first time jitters) take it again. There’s always superscore.
