I've been thinking about applying to Rice for a long time now and just today decided I want to apply for sure but I didn't realize the fianl date to request an interview was Dec. 1! How bad is it to not have an interview?

The interview counts for very little. If they reject or accept you, the chances of it being because of the interview are very slim.

I have the same question. Another student from my school with basically identical stats is also appyling to Rice. The only difference in our applications is that he is a boy that did an interview and I am a girl that didn't. I hope the male-female ratio in science and engineering outweighs the benefits of his interview (which, knowing him, went very well.)

Funny that your screen name is google. The person who interviewed me works at google.

Interviews are basically just to get an idea of the person behind all of the GPA/SAT/essays. I don't think it's that important (i.e. make or break), especially if you're not doing ED.

The interview is really as much for you to learn some more about the school as it is for the school to learn about you, so I wouldn't worry too much. I think that when I was applying, I missed the deadline to request one by a day or two and still managed to do one....
