My final grade for math as a sophomore was a C+. Math has never been my forte and I am intending to go into the humanities, nothing to do with math. The rest of the grades on my transcript are mainly As and a few Bs. How much will that one C+ kill my chances at top-tier schools? I'm still in the top 10% of my class, pretty good SAT score, good ECs, etc...everything except that one C. Can I still get into places like Johns Hopkins, University of Chicago, UPenn?

OMG yes you’ll be fine. Just make sure that in the future, you get all the help you can possibly get for any classes that you may struggle with. If you’re still struggling, just rock your EC’s and show how challeged you were in your course work in your college essays. You’re fine.

Sophomore year? The difference will be imperceptible. Just bring it up and keep it there.
