How much will these two things hurt me in the admissions process?

There are two things I'm worried about with my schedule this year. For the first thing, I'm a teacher assistant for one of my classes. Originally I signed up for AP CS but my counselor made a mistake and only put me in 5 classes. The classes ended up being full and so did the 2/3 VAPA classes I was willing to take. For 2nd semester I'll be taking a class at pierce for my VAPA requirements so I'll have 6 classes but I was wondering how colleges would see a schedule with only 5 real classes 1st semester.

The second thing is my math class. My sophomore year I was in Math Analysis/AP Calc A and at my school you have the option to go into Calc BC or Calc AB. I was originally in Calc BC, but it was the teacher's first year teaching the class and wasn't doing too great a job for me. I decided to drop to Calc AB for my junior year and double up on Stats and BC my senior year. Do you guys think this will hurt me significantly (especially if I want to get into CS).

Bump

Nah. Don’t worry. At my son’s school TA is only done by honor students and the teacher has to “hire” you. I think that speaks a lot for a student. Will you take AP CS next year? Some students seem to manage to get into CS programs with NO CS in high school.

@OspreyCV22 yeah I’ll be taking CS next year

Bump

I only have 5 real classes too (gym is required), and I’m doing just fine in the admissions process, don’t worry. Second, most kids (myself included) end up taking BC senior year, the fact that you have to is also fine. Don’t worry about stuff like this that has no bearing on admissions, and focus on the important things (essays, recs, and most importantly enjoying high school). Good luck OP.

Hmm at my old school TA was considered a joke.

@‌mrnephew Yeah at my school it’s usually for seniors who don’t want to take an actual close. Although a lot of people get stuck with it when their counselor makes a mistake.

I could see that being a bit of a problem, considering that you were going to take a rigorous AP class.

@mrnephew Can I explain something like this on my college apps?

I don’t know, I’ve never applied to college. I have applied to boarding school, though, and you can explain it on there.

My school offers 8 classes in a day, I only have 6. So far I’ve been accepted into all of the colleges I’ve heard from. As long as your past stats are fine, you should be okay.

Also, the fact you’re taking calc BC at all is impressive. Taking AB definitely won’t hurt you.
