I don't want to be studying the whole time though, that's why I made Chinese P/NP. How's this workload? Which should I go with?
The second one schedule wise is better for me, meaning I would defer math 53 to spring semester. I have taken math 54 already.

How much work can I expect from each class?

Depends a lot. For example, are you native born chinese? Since Berkeley's such a major international school with a humongous asian population, a lot of the lower level foreign language courses are used as gpa boosters by people who already know the language. My roommate, who was born in china but moved early enough that he's practically illiterate in chinese, had a difficult time maintaining even a B, despite the fact he can speak it fluently. With P/NP it shouldn't be a problem staying above C, but it's still something you should keep in mind.

Three graded technical courses seems fine though. 53 is IMO not that hard. I at least found it many times easier than 54, but I suppose it depends on your professor. Same for 7A.
E77 does give a good amount of homework but it's all about basic programming logic, though some people will swear it is the course from hell. Stats, I've never taken, but from friend that is double majoring with stats as one of his majors, the coursework doesn't seem especially overbearing.

I didn't take M53 (I guess it's similar to 50A/B?) but took all the other classes. Chinese is easy. While the language is comlex, it's broken down into small bits that are easy to assimilate and don't require much thinking at all, just memorizing and basic drills. The three other courses are solid, but if that's all the courses you're taking, it's a fairly easy semester load.

If you're a non-native speaker, you should consider taking chinese for a grade, it was an easy A for me.

UCBUCB, your load looks pretty manageable too. Nutri Sci is easy, and maths and stats for fluffy majors is not too hard. English is a lot of work, that was a tough one for me but it's still a pretty easy load.

I like this one:
Chinese 1 (P/NP)
Physics 7A
Engineering 77
Stats 134

-You get a nice variety of courses, get to move around the campus, meet different people, and get your core engineering courses done early on. two math classes will definitely work you. Also, I recommend taking a PE class, for that free gym membership.

For UCBUCB:

english r1a
math 16b
nutrition 10
stats 21

This is a also a good schedule. nutri sci 10 and math 16b aren't too bad. Also, what topics will be covered in your R1A ? You can check what the theme of the class and the reading schedule on the english.berkeley.edu website. Teachers post their syllabus there, hope that helps.
