I'm just wondering out of curiosity how much you think someone would have to donate per year to get an almost qualified student into an ivy league school. I'm not asking for me (I'll be applying for financial aid!), I was just curious.

Million(s).
I don't doubt that there's cases where rich folks donate hundreds of thousands of dollars, which puts a lot of weight on their child's admissions since the school would love to keep getting that money.

Old adage: If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it!

Enough money to equal the income potential if you were to have gone to an ivy.

They're not that crass to have a fixed number. The question is, what's your net worth? That's what they're interested in, your long term potential. I'd say HYP woulds stand up and pay attention when someone worth over $200MM showed interest.

Of course there's no fixed number. It's a sliding scale. It's hidden somewhere deep in the bowels of Harvard's website.

Meg Whitman.

And David Booth.

$8 billion apparently.
