How much would my SAT score hurt me...should I apply..your opinions needed!

So up until now pretty much all I have been concerned about are my SAT scores. They are far below average for JHU. But all I want to know is considering my research where do my chances lie..if I apply, would I be among the first ones to be removed from the stack of applications? Or am I slightly competitive because everyone at my school was shocked upon seeing my SAT scores because I am doing kinda well in this school which is considered one of the best in the state?

your SATs are not FAR below. far below would be less than 1900.

What are your scores for CR, writing and math? If they’re below the 25th percentile then you have a problem.

I respect success.

collegekid…i cannot understand what your trying to say…but thanks for replying
redemption: my CR+M score is listed above…1250

^^^ He wants to know your CR and Math scores separately. It’s one thing if you have 600’s on each, but if you were to have 800 on math and 450 on CR, then you’d have a problem.

^is 600+ on each section okay?
My problem is that I never broke 700 (except on the subject tests)–but I got 630+ on each section of the SAT 1.

600’s on each section isn’t exactly okay, just it’s better than having an 800 and then a 450 as that shows a lack of well-roundedness. 700+ is probably what they’re expecting. Same goes for subject tests.

Good luck everybody!

well i have 580 CR and 670 Math…so i do believe i’m way below their 25th percentile (by 80 points i guess)…so yea not the best part of my application…but should i apply or not…because 25 percentile does mean that they still accept 25% of students whose stats are not up to the point (or do athletes come under this category?)

I say apply, but don’t count on getting in. If there 25% is 630 CR, 660 M, 630 W…then obviously there has to be a large number of admitted students below these numbers. Keep in mind these are from 2008 so a little inaccurate I would look at data in the book they sent me, but i don’t know exactly where it is.

At any rate…even with uncompetitive SAT scores, you still have decent chance. My advice would have been to apply ED if jhu was your first choice, but that deadline has long passed (assuming you are of the graduating class of 2011). Anyway apply dude, you got a chance.
