How often are sophomore transfers admitted into UCs?

Is it possible to transfer into uci or ucd as a sophomore? By the end of this semester I’ll have 36 credits, a 3.57 gpa and lots of ec, leadership experience, and volunteering. I know my gpa isn’t the best, but I will say, everyone I had read my essays for the uc app said they were extraordinary

Very few UC’s accept Sophomore level transfers and the successful transfer applicants will have the majority of the major prep and GE’s completed prior to transfer which would include AP credits.

In general, 60 semester/90 quarter units are required by Spring. EC’s and essays do not make up for the academic portion of your application meaning major pre-req and GE completion. No harm in trying to transfer since if not accepted, you can reapply next year.

I applied for Human Development and Psychological Science. I’m interested in Psychology, but I know that’s typically pretty impacted, so I applied for majors similar to it.

From the UCD website:
While the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences occasionally considers applications from students with less than junior-level standing, very few lower-division transfers are admitted. All other academic divisions will only consider applications from junior-level transfers.

One thought I had was because of COVID-19, more people are enrolling into cc, so the UC’s aren’t as full. Could this increase my chance of being accepted as a sophomore?

Actually I believe the opposite is true. UC enrollment remained the same but there were many students that either opted for a Gap Year, started at a CC or remained at their CC for another year to better enhance their GPA and complete their major requirements. I think UC admissions will be more competitive for Fall 2021 but that remains to be seen.

Very few get in. Even when sophomore standing is open for a major, it might mean only one or two spots are available.

are there any stats I could see on this? I’ve only found ones regrading junior transfers, not sophomores.

There may only be stats for junior transfers because there may not be enough sophomore transfers to be meaningful statistically. It may be that every sophomore transfer is somehow exceptional in ways that most transfer students would not be able to qualify as.
