How often do people lie and get away?

Just curious, how often do people lie on their ECs and get away with?

I was just thinking that with the UCs being only sponsored by only taxpayers money, they don't have the means to varify every statement on every application. What do u think?

everyone is "just curious"

lol jk

on a serious note, i hope not too often because the UCs (Berkeley I know for sure) checks up on that if they're suspicious. Its always better to tell the truth anyway. I wouldn't want to get into a school that I didn't deserve to.

I knew a girl who applied with a 4.0 and got rejected from Berkeley for a less competitive major because she streched the truth a lot on one of her ECs...

well, i was just thinking that if everyone lied on their application, than it would be a disadvantage to not lie.

I just needed to have my suspicion confirmed

I think a fair amount do lie to some extent, but as already pointed out, anything amazing (that would be significant enough to actually increase your chances drastically) can and will be verified.

No school, no matter how well endowed, verifies every statement on every application.

However, you don't want to lie for so many reasons:[ul][]you might be the one they decide to verify, because your info is too good to be true; interesting and they want to follow-up; or random selection[]your acceptance can be rescinded if they decide to check on things after you're admitted, even after you've been attending the school for some while[li]you are the one who has to live with yourself[/ul]
[/li]

And the number one reason to be truthful on your application?.....
Because it is the right thing to do.

exactly good point

anything worth lying about to stand out is something that will probably make you stand out enough to possibly be checked up on..

ie you stretch the truth about the hours of tutoring in math..

^thats not even very significant, you'll get away with it but those extra hours aren't even that impressive. they get it, you tutored in math.

BUT

if you lie about winning some math award

^ that is significant and will be caught if they check. so its never worth lying.

i seriously doubt they care'd care if you extend your hours of extracurriculars so its not even slick or beneficial, so dont do it folks...
