How often do students go to SF?

Hi guys! I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how often students from Cal crossover to SF. I'm quite a large city person, so I'm a little worried I might feel out of sorts for the first few months attending Berkeley.

Also, if anyone could tell me how far the journey is by BART/any other means (the search tool has gotten me answers from 15 minutes to 30 minutes, which is quite a big difference) it would be great! And is the MUNI Geary 38/L bus really as bad as it sounds?

Thanks!

From Cal to downtown SF by Bart is very fast.
by car is from 15 to 60 min - depends on traffic.
Bus 38 / 38L go from downtown to beach, (Richmond District) They are always full.
38 stops on every stop (every 2 blocks)
38L has much less stops (like express)
I am taking this bus to school every day .

I don’t think I’ve been to SF ever since I discovered Bay Street. When I was a sophomore I went to SF a few times a semester to watch a musical, go to the chocolate festival, etc. With your Cal student ID (paid bus pass) you can take the F or FS bus to SF.

I know freshmen who go to SF every weekend, but for the most part, people seem to limit it to twice a month or so for big outings.

And BART’ing to SF takes 30 minutes.

dude, you can easily live in SF and go to Cal. lots of students do it. BART goes right into Berkeley, it is fast and efficient. no problemo!

SF is a great town! i will stay in Sausalito and commute for a while. hopefully i can take all my classes on two or three days per week max.

Thanks all for your replies :)! It’s good to hear, I was a little worried about how I would adapt but I guess “comfort zone” is not too far away.

Wow I’m kinda surprised that a lot of students do it, I’d imagine that factoring walking times and stuff the journey could take up to an hour and that sounds like quite a heavy commute for a full-time student to me. But I suppose everyone has different degrees of tolerance :)

Also, does anyone know how slow the free AC bus is compared to the BART? And is 38/L Geary really that bad D: (I’ve got a few friends living near Japantown).

Thanks again :)
