How often do students here take a class P/NP?

The deadline for switching the grading option is the 29th, and I can't decide what to do for my Astronomy class. I'm an intended Poli Sci major and I'm just taking it for my physical science breadth. I'm pretty sure I'd get a B-range grade in the class but I can't decide if that would be better than a 'Pass' as that option would not affect my GPA.

How often do students take a class P/NP? Is it normally completely avoided unless someone is desperate, or is it something that most people do a couple times?

Unless you’re applying to a grad program that counts a pass as C- or something, I would always take a class P/NP if your expected grade would bring down your GPA. Personally I would take a class P/NP if I didn’t think I would get an A- or higher.

Does Haas care about taking classes P/NP? I’m thinking bout taking my history class P/NP because my GSI is a harsh grader and it’s more likely for me to get a B+ than an A. This would be the 2nd class I take P/NP but only the 1st breadth. I took an elective class for P/NP that wasn’t for breadth. Does this have negative effects on admission?

Thanks for the help! In general, is it common for grad programs to count a Pass as a C-?

"a grad program that counts a pass as C- "
Is this true?
What if I take some PE class as P/NP and another intro to entrepreneurship class which only has P/NP option. Will all that be count as C?

Almost everyday

No grad school I know of counts P as a C-, especially if you are taking a P/NP only class. If you don’t have to take a certain class for a letter grade and feel like you might get a poor mark, just pull off the P/NP maneuver. Most of my friends did it at least once.

What if I already have 3. One for AC requirement, one for PE, one for an intro to entrepreneur class, will those looks bad on the transcript later?

how do med schools look at a class that was taken Pass/Not pass? Do they count it as a C- too???

NO GRAD SCHOOL COUNTS A P AS A C- =__=
They will however, count a NP as an F… and reevaluate your GPA thus

Also, they will wonder why you would take a class P/NP. Also, P/NP and P/F are denoted differently on the transcript. So if a class is ONLY P/F, don’t worry about it.

Grad schools usually only focus on core classes. So if you’re pre-med and you took a Science or English class P/NP, they will wonder why. If you took music P/NP, they really don’t care…

Personally, the only courses I took P/NP were DeCals and PE classes
