My guidance counselor told me that colleges hardly ever ask, but I’m still nervous. I always need a little bit of time to adjust to new teachers/classes, so my first quarter grades look poor compared to my usual performance.

And statistics our there on how often Brown asks? And specific reasons why they would?

My school doesn’t send first quarter grades as a part of transcripts since they aren’t “record grades” (because only semester and final grades count as those). But my guidance counselor told me to send them because they were pretty good, so I sent them to my Brown Rep. Brown, though, doesn’t need them. If you want to wait to submit your semester grades, it’s fine with them (most likely your school will send those, though, as they will be part of your transcript). Mainly, if you want Brown to see them and take them into consideration while looking through your application, then send them, otherwise don’t worry.

@TheDragon76 I was more worried that Brown would specifically request the 1st quarter grades for use in admission decisions. I’m already improving all of this year’s classes, so 1st semester should be good as usual. Thanks for replying!

I think it was just a couple of weeks before ED decisions came out. The GC reported her current grades, which in a couple of classes were a little higher than the 1st quarter grade report from a few weeks prior. Yes, there was an unusual circumstance in that my daughter had started in a new special program, but the other ED applicant from her HS, whose interim grades were also requested, did not have that change.

@lax1997 Oh jeez. Thanks for posting, I’ll be sure to provide an update if they ask for mine. Any reason that you could think of for them asking?

I have gotten all A’s in high school so I don’t have a clue. No erratic grade trends or anything unusual with me. Maybe to see if I got Senioritis or not? No idea! And yes, please post back if you hear anything. Thanks!
