I was accepted EA to MIT, but am worried that they might rescind admission due to first semester grades. I had 3 A’s, 3 B’s, and 1 C. All of these courses were taken at a local university, and I did not slack off or give in to senioritis; I was instead overloaded with applications and extracurriculars. I plan on earning all A’s next semester. I received conflicting results from reading other discussions, and just wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this?
Three A’s, Three B’s and a C is not the level of slacking off that might lead to rescinding admission. A transcript of D’s might. I really would not worry.
I got into MIT early myself (some years back) with a C on my transcript prior to my application. My C was in typing, which my parents insisted I take, and I found myself in a room full of my classmates who were mostly looking to go to secretarial school after high school graduation. I am really grateful to my parents, because being able to type fluently (which I mostly did learn to do despite the C) was insanely useful when I got to MIT.
MIT looks holistically at what the scores say, not merely at the scores themselves.
OP, Your concern brought back memories of my high school year.
Third quarter English was all Shakespeare and I hate Shakespeare. I got a “generous” grade of D. My parents were furious and my mother blasted my English teacher. Why she yelled at him was beyond me because I really deserved an F. The last quarter the rest of the class could sit back and relax as every time the teacher asked a question in class, he always called on me for the answer (I didn’t have to raise my hand or anything). At the end of the quarter, the teacher said my grade was reflective of my “class participation”. Traditionally I got B’s in English but that quarter I got one of my few A’s in the subject.
I was still able to go to MIT even with the A in English (real engineers don’t get A’s in English)
If I’m not mistaken, that wouldn’t happen until the end of the year, so you have time to improve your grades.
Are you applying for transfer ?
@Mostafa1othman 99% sure OP applied for freshman admission, not transfer.
@Mostafa1othman yes, @MITer94 is right, I applied for freshman admission
