How often will ISIS update these days?

Now that the Spring semester has started, how often will ISIS update each day? Thanks.

I only know how admission records are affected…it may be how the entire system works. Our data is uploaded each night, so anything we want in ISIS appears a day after we enter it in our shadow system. Hope that helps a little bit!

In one month, the transition to the new system begins. From what I’ve been told, the order of transition is Admission > Student Financial Services > Registrar. I’m not sure of the time line, though. There might be info on the Integrated System Group’s website.

Jimmyjam:
For which ISIS functionality are you interested in knowing the frequency of updating?

I’m sorry, I did leave that sort of vague. I was referring to the COD. As far as I can tell, it updates every morning at 6:15am. At this time of the semester though, it would be so nice if it updated in real time, or at the very least, several times a day so that students know which classes are opening up.
Hopefully the new system that Dean J refers to will allow for these more frequent updates.
I’m really quite happy with my Spring schedule, but I’m just one of those folks who keeps shopping the COD for options.

the COD only updates once a day…it sucks doesn’t it? haha! The easiest way to do this is just log into ISIS, check the availability, and then just click “add” if there’s room. Only catch is you have to have enough room (example, I could have 21 credits enrolled, so when I went to add a class, i couldn’t get to 24, so I had to go back and drop)

Jimmyjam:
The Course Availability and Course Enrollment functions in ISIS operate in real time. If you check availability for a course using the Course Availablity function, ISIS will either bring up another screen that shows you the number of seats available in the class (and discussion groups), or inform you that all sections of the course are full (it does this by taking you back to the Main Menu and displaying an “ALL SECTIONS OF THE COURSE YOU REQUESTED ARE FULL” message in red cap letters. If you attempt to add a given course you are interested in using the Course Enrollment function, ISIS will add the course if there is space available (and display a message telling you that the course has been successfully added), or it will inform you that all sections of the course you requested are full as described above. It does this based on WHAT IS OR IS NOT AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW, regardless of what the COD shows. However, as Shoebox noted, ISIS will not allow you to add in to a course if doing so would put you above 17 credit hours for the current semester. If that’s the case, you would have to drop something else that gives you enough leeway to add the course you want without going above the 17 credit hour limit. A word of caution if you drop one course to add another is in order here: since this is a real time scenario, once you drop the course you were in, it becomes fair game for anyone else who is surfing ISIS looking for courses to take. Thus, if you drop a course and then change your mind, you might/probably would be able to pick the dropped course back up if you change your mind before the daily COD update (around 6:15 am each morning), but there is no guarantee of this, since ISIS operates on a first come, first served, space available basis. Doing a Course Swap would allow you to swap one course for another without the risk of losing the course you are giving up unless the course you want to add has seats available. If you want or need to take more than 17 credit hours, you must obtain written permission from your Association Dean to do so.

To test the above this evening, do the following. Check the COD for SOC 252, and it will show one space available in the lecture (200/199), with several spots left in two Friday 8 am discussion sections, and one spot left in a 10 am Friday discussion group. However, if you log into ISIS and do Course Availability check for SOC 252, it will tell you that the lecture class is at full enrollment (it does this by NOT listing the lecture section) and that there are several spaces left in two Friday 8 am discussion sections. At this time of the semester, if you were really interested in taking this course, you might check it several times during the day. Earlier today there was one spot, then two spots, then one spot, and now no spots available in the lecture section for SOC 252. Of course this could easily change again (perhaps by the time you check it later this evening).

Hope all this helps you a little. Best wishes for a great spring semester!

I wondered what happened to the registrar this semester, I had several classes with the wrong classroom on ISIS. Made for some confusing moments, and a ghastly one as my EVSC class all moved to the right classroom and completely filled it to the brim – stairs, floors and all.

HHAHAHAH you must be in 201!

Funny story:
So, friend and I are trying to figure out which room it’s in. I check COD, and our section (MSE) says it’s in PHYS, then by dumb chance I looked at the EVSC, which said Clark. So, I walk into PHYS and asked Gary if I was in the right place and he looked at me like I was stupid. I then explained, twice, that 100 kids were elsewhere so he was going to have a small class that day. His response: “Oh no…well, I guess a lot will be force-adding”
It was nuts when everyone showed up, this class is going to suck if they don’t move rooms (Oh, and Clark probably would fit us all…my j-term class watched a movie in there once and there were probably ~150 seats)

Oh, and anyone notice the surge of early morning classes? I don’t really know anyone who starts everyday after 10 who is taking a decent load (~14-17). I know tons of people with 8ams and 9ams. Sucks!

You just gave me a college flashback of walking home, done for the day, and encountering friends who was just starting .

Those early classes are a bear at times (especially when there’s snow on the ground), but they have their benefits!

Shoe: Haha yes indeed. When I heard the professor was in physics I immediately got up and ran out the door, booking it to physics. That was the only way I got a seat. We really should have the class in Clark, it makes more sense and it is a lot bigger.

Hehe, I have 16 credits and all my classes start at 11 am M-F. I had to scour the COD most thoroughly though, I’m really just not a morning person.

Pardon my grammar on the last post. That was written pre-Greenberry’s trip.
